This Site is made available to you by Pearson Education, Inc. and its subsidiaries and affiliates ("Pearson"). At Pearson, we are serious about protecting your privacy, and this privacy statement (the "Privacy Statement") discloses how we collect, protect, use and share the personal information gathered on this Site.
Your use of this Site is subject to the User Terms (the "User Terms") posted on this website, which includes this Privacy Statement. The User Terms (including the Privacy Statement) or any part thereof may be revised by Pearson from time to time, through an updated posting, and therefore you should check the User Terms (including the Privacy Statement) periodically. Revisions are effective upon posting and your continued use of this Site, after the posting of revisions to the User Terms (including the Privacy Statement), will indicate your acceptance of such revisions. If you have any questions concerning the User Terms (including the Privacy Statement), please contact us.
This Site allows you to create, illustrate, write and publish your custom books in paperback, hardcover or PDF format.
This Privacy Statement describes the information that we collect from you as a teacher and from any students in your classroom that you decide to allow to use the custom book services contained on the Site. This Privacy Statement also describes how we use that information, and with whom that information is shared.
As it’s important for you to clearly understand this Privacy Statement, here are some definitions to keep in mind as you read this Privacy Statement:
“Your student” or “students” refers to students in your classroom who you have chosen to associate with your teacher account.
Any adult teacher may register to create a subscription account on the Site. Each subscription will last for the applicable subscription period starting from the date of registration on the Site. The Student’s Account that you create will be associated with your teacher account. In the event that you create a Student’s Account, both your account and your Student’s Account, will be governed by this Privacy Statement and the User Terms.
You have the right to cancel your account at any time. If a teacher subscription lapses, the associated teacher account and data will remain in Tikatok should a teacher decide to renew for up to six (6) months from the expiration date. After six (6) months, the teacher account and data will be deleted. However, associated student accounts and data will be deleted immediately when a subscription lapses and all associated student roster information and student books that have been created as part of those accounts will be deleted.
During the account registration process Pearson collects no more personally identifiable information from you than is reasonably necessary for you and your students to participate in the custom book activities. This includes, among other things, your name, the name of your school and your email address. You will also be asked to create a username and a password during the registration process. When creating a username, do not use any personally identifiable information. For example, you should not use your initials, telephone number, email address, abbreviation of your name or zip code.
During the time you register and/or place a product order we may collect additional personally identifiable information from you. For example, we may ask if you want us to include biographical information about you, or your student, such as your student’s name, in the product that you are purchasing. In addition, you have the option of including a parent’s email address for the sole purpose of sharing a student’s work on Tikatok with the parent. This email address will only be used so that a teacher can choose to send a parent an email from the Site with a unique URL bringing the parent to the Site to view their student’s book. The parent may then choose to purchase the book once they land on Tikatok. In no event shall Pearson shall use the parent’s email address to market products or services to the parent.
Although Pearson does not request personally identifiable information from you other than during the registration process and the product-ordering process, the purpose of the Site is to allow the creation, illustration, and personalization of books. As a result, you control the information that you and your students choose to include in the books you create.
We consider the following to be examples of personally-identifying information: they include, but are not limited to, your first and last name, email address, home address, phone number, date of birth, social security number, credit card information and certain other information, to the extent it is linked with your personally-identifying information.
The information we learn from you helps us personalize and continually improve your experience and use of this Site, so that we can further serve your needs and our legitimate business purposes. For example, when you send us a message or make an online purchase, we need to retain certain personally-identifying information on this Site in order to respond to your request. Your personally-identifying information may be used by our company to help us improve this Site, and also may be used for our company's marketing and promotional purposes. We receive and store any information you enter on this Site or give us in any other way. You can choose not to provide certain information, but then you might not be able to take advantage of many of our features.
Except as specifically stated in this Privacy Statement, our policy is not to share this personally-identifying information with third parties, but we may share this information with affiliates of Pearson, and other companies and organizations who perform work for us under contract or sell products or services that complement our products and services. We may also engage third parties to assist with services related to the Site, such as technical and processing services, shipping, book printing and website analytics. These third parties are obligated to keep your information confidential and must use the information only in connection with providing the services described herein. We may also disclose personally-identifying information in the following situations (a) in response to a subpoena, court order or legal process, to the extent permitted and required by law; (b) to protect user security or the security of other persons, consistent with applicable laws; (c) in connection with a sale, joint venture or other transfer to some or all of Pearson or the assets of Pearson; or (d) in order to enforce the Site’s User Terms. We otherwise exercise commercially reasonable care to not otherwise share or disclose the names of users or any other personally-identifying information with third-parties, except with the prior approval of the user.
PARENTS AND TEACHERS: We encourage parents and teachers to spend time with their Children and/or students they teach in connection with their participation in the custom book activities that may be offered on this Site. No personally-identifying information should be submitted to or posted on this Site by Children without the consent of their parent, guardian or teacher. We encourage parents and teachers to monitor Children’s online use, and to help us protect their privacy by instructing Children never to provide such information on this Site or any other website without permission. We are also prohibited by law from conditioning a Child’s participation in any activity on this Site on the Child disclosing more personally-identifying information than is reasonably necessary to participate in such activity.
CHILDREN: Please do not give your full name, email address, home address, telephone number or any other personally-identifying information that would enable someone to contact you either on-line or off-line, without first asking your parent, guardian or teacher for permission.
Pearson does not ask Children to provide any personally identifiable information on this Site. As a result, if you have created a Student Account that allows your student to participate on our Site, we do not condition your student’s use of the account on his or her providing any personally identifiable information. If you decide to create a Student’s Account, however, Pearson will allow your student to create personalized books. Although Pearson warns all children not to include personally identifiable information in the books that they author, it is possible that they may inadvertently provide Pearson with personally identifiable information in the content of the book that they author.
We may disclose a Child's personally-identifying information in special cases when we have reason to believe that disclosing this information is necessary to identify, contact or bring legal action against someone who may be causing injury to, or interference with, (either intentionally or unintentionally) our rights or property, other users or anyone else that could be harmed by such activities. We also may disclose a Child's personally-identifying information when we believe in good faith that the law requires it.
Pearson allows you and/or your student to create books on the Site, which includes both text (the stories) and images (the illustrations). You should not include any personally identifiable information in your books, either in the words or in the images you supply.
If you or your students decide to create a book, your book will be available in “private display.” Private display means that the book may be visible to only Pearson, you (the teacher), the student and other students in your classroom, for whom you give permission to share access to your book. A book will never be made accessible to the general public by Pearson. A book in private display will contain, by default, the author’s username and a blank space for any biographical information that you may choose to supply. You can provide biographical information, such as your name or your student’s name, if you decide to “publish” a book. Publishing refers to a purchase of the book in paperback, hardcover or PDF format. Only you (the teacher) can decide to publish a book that you create or that your student creates. Students are not allowed to publish or order books.
When you decide to publish a book, we may give you the option of selecting individuals who you would like to receive a copy of your book. If you indicate that an individual should receive a copy of your book, we may send a copy of the book, along with any biographical information that you have chosen to include in it, to that individual.
At any time you may log in to your account and review the information that you have provided to Pearson about you or your students or any books that you or your students have created on the Site. At any time you may log in to your account and delete any information you provided Pearson about you or your students or any books that you or your students have created on the Site.
